On March 12, 2016, Old Town Manassas held its first parade of the
year, the 17th Annual Greater Manassas St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The
day was just right for a parade and every corner you turned, you would
find green all over.
The streets were full of people that were celebrating the centennial
year of the Republic of Ireland, and families were there to enjoy the parade with their
loved ones. Children played in the streets with joyful expressions. Irish
Music perfect for the occasion played all over the streets throughout
The parade went well as the City of Manassas Police Department started
it off with their opening banner followed by the National Anthem sung
by Frances Sullivan and her daughter. The Northern Virginia Firefighters Emerald Society Pipe Band rallied up the crowd by playing their bagpipes throughout the parade. They also played in the Harris Pavilion once the parade was over to continue the celebration for St. Patrick’s Day.
