On Thursday, March 31th Metz Middle School hosted a Wellness Fair. The fair reaches out to the community and encourages a healthier lifestyle through fun activities. Families could go around the school and get their height and weight measured as well as having their vision and hearing tested outside in the . Raffle tickets were given with every activity completed throughout the afternoon. Raffle winners were announced every 15 minutes and prizes included water bottles, pace trackers, bike helmets, basketballs, a Nintendo Wii and a bicycle!
Organizations around the Manassas community volunteered and had their own booths that focused on promoting health. Inter Service Club Council Greater Manassas, The Boys’ and Girls’ Club, Patient First, Virginia Council for Litter Prevention and Recycling, Dr. D’s Smiles Orthodontics, the Virginia Dance Center, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Dr. Elaine Sours Dental, Bull Run and Manassas Rotary and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) were spotted at the event.
Healthy food options included whole grain bread, baked pretzels, fruit, juice, granola bars and strawberry pancakes that were free to all. A stand displayed the shockingly high amounts of sugar in daily drinks and how distorted portion sizes have become over the decades.
CCN members had fun running an obstacle course, using scooters in the gym, watching a dance choreography and enjoyed taking pictures! Children were able to get their faces painted, play in the gymnasium and explored a local fire truck alongside firemen.
My mother, Esperanza Ramirez, came to the Metz Wellness Fair and said, “I learned a lot about new clinics and organizations in Manassas, it was very interesting!”
It’s great to know our community is united in getting healthier and having fun!
