Today June 12th, 2017 is the day Osbourn High School seniors have been waiting for, graduation. With temps in the mid 90s, emotions run high. Participants gathered together for their last time as students. The venue, Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, VA. Despite the venue’s large size the crowd filled the arena without much room to spare. It was amazing to see so many people come to be a part of this important milestone.
Friends and family arrived excited for the event but sad to see their children embark on the next part of their lives. Mothers held tissues and wiped away their tears. Others carried cards, flowers, and balloons to congratulate their loved one.
As Ms. Vivienne Penders, SCA President took the stage the audience settled in for the Pledge of Allegiance. Juliet Morales, Class of 2017 Vice President spoke about the history of the class of 2017. Ms. Tapscott, Dean of Students recognized all of the students who have chosen to go into the various branches of the military. Tim Demeria said “Once you leave Osbourn you are going into adulthood and responsibility starts”.
For over ten minutes the sounds of Pomp and Circumstance played as the class of 2017 took their final walk as students. At this point I believe the true importance of this process swept through the crowd. One by one the student were called across the stage to become graduates. You could feel the audience’s enthusiasm as their loved one crossed the stage. Shortly after all names had been called the tassels were turned, the hats were tossed and the Class of 2017 had officially graduated. Friends and family eagerly awaited to congratulate their graduates. As the ceremony was completed the sun set beautifully. I am honored to have attended this event to watch many of my peers move into their next phase of life. Congratulations!
